NISHANT SRINIVASAIAH

Dr. Nishant Srinivasaiah is an Assistant Professor with the Coexistence Studies Group at the University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology (TDU), Bangalore, and an Adjunct Faculty at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS).

 

A wildlife biologist and behavioural ecologist by training, Nishant's work over the past fifteen years has explored the complex relationships between humans and Asian elephants in rapidly changing landscapes across southern India. He is also a Doctoral Researcher at FERAL (Foundation for Ecological Research, Advocacy and Learning), leading several long-term projects on human–elephant coexistence across the Eastern and Western Ghats.

 

Nishant holds a PhD from NIAS, Bangalore, and has held postdoctoral fellowships at the Indian Institute of Science and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. His research combines behavioural ecology, ethology, and design thinking to reimagine coexistence between people and elephants.

 

He is also the co-founder of the Jontu Centre for People and Nature Futures, an initiative that promotes more-than-human design for shared landscapes, and an advisor to the Karnataka Wildlife Technical Cell. Nishant is also a member of the IUCN–SSC Asian Elephant Specialist Group and recipient of the ZEISS Wildlife Conservation Award.
